Are Dating Apps Actually distracting us from finding the ‘one’?

Tinder, Bumble, Match!  Chances are most singles you know are on one of these online dating apps.  But have you ever thought that maybe these apps are just distracting you from meeting someone for real?  What is the main purpose of these apps?  Well surely it is to match you with your dream man of course.  But, is the convenience of such apps making us loose sight of what we really want?  Those that are signed up to any of these apps, often use them to pass time or even to save time if they want a one night stand!  I mean are you really going to meet the man of your dreams on an app in which you are judging someone solely on their looks?  You can’t see their body language, you can’t actually initiate a talking conversation and they have most likely put up every one of their best photos ever taken in their adult life.  Therefore are we really swiping for them or what they want us to think they are like?  I mean take a look at everyones profiles, even yours.  Its like an advert for you. You are advertising yourself to entice others to swipe right for you, in the hope they may talk to you and it will actually, some day, in the distant future blossom into a wonderful romance.  Then you bring yourself back down to earth and realise this is pretty unrealistic.  So are dating apps actually used for ‘dating’ or are they actually just distracting us, keeping us on our phones preventing us from seeing what may be already right in front of us.  Call me old fashioned but I truly think if you are going to meet the man of your dreams he will find you, when you least expect it.  Not when you go looking for it.  Don’t get me wrong some great friendships can come about through these apps, but through experience not a solid relationship.  If you are not looking for something serious then I would for sure recommend signing up to a dating app!  If you have a busy schedule and still want to date, then online dating is perfect!

  1. Great article. The new app Perchance actually helps you find the ONE! It is a much less superficial way to date and an easy way to find someone you are actually interested in!
